BIG DATA: Using Clinical and Business Information to Inform Decision Making

Tuesday, January 24
5pm – 9pm

Elmhurst Memorial Hospital
Arboretum Center
155 E. Brush Hill Road, Elmhurst, IL

On January 23, 2012 GCC HIMSS hosted an educational program titled “BIG DATA: Using Clinical and Business Information to Inform Decision Making”. Elmhurst Memorial Hospital hosted the program in its new conference center, which was an amazing venue for the event. The program was attended by over 120 GCC HIMSS members – one of the most highly attended programs in recent years!

The objective of the program was to discuss how organizations can create an environment where information is readily available to inform and to improve clinical and business decision making. The program was a panel format where each panelist provided an overview of their organization’s approach to business intelligence and data management, followed by questions from the audience. Each of the panelists gave a different perspective on how information can be used to positively impact care, including: hospital inpatient / ACO, hospital affiliated physician group, hospital financial management, and ambulatory care / chronic disease management.

The session was facilitated by Chris Scott, Technology Consulting Partner at Tatum and the panelists included:
  • Dr. Michael McKenna, Vice President, Medical Management, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital
  • Dr. David Liebovitz, Chief Medical Officer, Northwestern Medical Faculty Founda tion
  • Patrick McDermott, SVP Revenue Services, Resurrection/Provena Health
  • Katie (Mackle) LeMoyne, Engagement Manager, TELUS Health Solutions
The panelists address a variety of questions including the selection of metrics to measure success, issues around adoption, data governance and ownership challenges, infrastructure and data structure considerations, privacy implications, and resource requirements to manage the information. The program attendees gained valuable insight and had an opportunity to network with colleagues. The program was a success and GCC HIMSS looks forward to hosting more great education programs in the future!
